Entering livestock Buyer Created Tax Invoices (BCTIs) can be time-consuming. Using the Invoice Scanner in Farm Focus captures key information automatically and stores a PDF copy of the BCTI with the transaction, so you always have a digital record. 

Supported Suppliers

Currently, Farm Focus supports livestock BCTIs from: 

• Silver Fern Farms and AFFCO New Zealand
  Additional suppliers, including Alliance, will be supported soon. 

Why Use the Invoice Scanner for BCTIs?

Using the Invoice Scanner makes managing your BCTIs faster and simpler: 

• Avoid manual entry – no need to type in all the details from the BCTI. 

• Save time  – quantities, weights, and totals are captured for you. 

• Get accurate livestock reporting – coding is based on the net price, with deductions already applied. 

• Keep a PDF copy – each BCTI is stored with the transaction for easy access and audit purposes. 

Forwarding Your BCTI to Farm Focus

Simply forward your BCTI to your farm-specific Invoice Scanner email address, just as you would any other invoice. 

• The BCTI will appear in the Needs Action screen. 

• It can be identified as a BCTI by the yellow Invoice Scanner logo. 

• Open the BCTI and begin coding. 

Coding a Livestock BCTI

You have two options when coding a scanned BCTI: 

Option 1: Merge All Lines (Recommended)

• Click Select All check box. 

• Click Merge to combine all scanned lines into a single total. 

• Code the invoice as usual. 

Benefits: 

• Saves time and reduces errors 

• The total shown is the net price, with deductions already applied 

• All required information such as quantities, weights are included 

Option 2: Code Deductions Separately

• Create a deductions (expense) code under each stock class or as a farm expenditure 

• Code each deduction line individually.  

Benefits: 

• Allows detailed tracking of deductions 

• Livestock income can be recorded as the gross amount before deductions 

• Useful if you need detailed reporting of costs 

TIP: For multiple stock classes on one killsheet, you may need to manually calculate how deductions apply to each class. 

Note: The Invoice Scanner is already trained to recognise BCTIs, so it’s ready to use straight away.
