How to edit Opening livestock numbers

When you create your farm business in Farm Focus, your first working plan automatically includes the opening livestock numbers, which can be edited if necessary. In following years, the previous year's closing numbers will roll over as the new year's opening numbers, but you can adjust them by going to the Livestock screen and entering the values manually.

How to edit Opening livestock numbers

Answer

When you first create your farm business in Farm Focus, your first Working Plan (main budget) is automatically created for you and you must enter your actual opening livestock numbers.

In following years the Working Plan closing numbers (year end tallies aged up) will become the next year opening numbers (although this can be overridden if needed).

When a Draft Plan is created the opening numbers must be entered, either by copying them from the Working Plan or manually entering them.

 

Opening numbers in your first Working Plan

When you first set up your business, a notification will appear in the bottom left corner of your screen, prompting you to enter opening livestock numbers into your working plan. 

Alternatively you can

  1. go to the Plan area,
  2. open your first Working Plan and go to the Livestock tab,
  3. go to the settings cog in top right corner,
  4. go to the Livestock settings tab (or you can click anywhere on the Opening column and the Plan settings - Livestock will open),
  5. then type in your opening numbers (what was on hand on the first day of the financial year),
  6. click Save.

Editing Opening Numbers

After the first year, the prior year closing numbers automatically become the next years opening numbers in the Working Plan. These can be edited if required, but ideally the prior years stock numbers will be accurate. However don't hesitate to draw a line in the sand if your stock numbers haven't been kept accurate in prior years.

To update opening numbers (as above)

  1. Click on the Settings icon at the top right corner of the livestock grid.

  2. Select Livestock.

  3. Enter opening numbers for each stock class.

  4. Click Save to finish.

 

TIP: If you are using Management Tags, click on the arrow next to the stock code.  This will allow you to manage opening stock numbers per Management Tag.
If you already have livestock opening numbers allocated by Management Tag you will not be able to edit the total number - you will need to edit the numbers per tag.
