How to file your GST directly with Inland Revenue

Why use direct filing?

Direct filing allows you to quickly and easily submit your GST return from Farm Focus, saving time and reducing manual entry.

Before you start

• Make sure you have a myIR user ID and password to access your myIR account. If you don’t have one, contact Inland Revenue to set it up.
• You must have authority to file on behalf of the Inland Revenue number you're submitting the return against.
• This method is only suitable for GST101 returns. If you file GST103 returns (GST + provisional tax), continue filing manually.

How to file your GST directly

Option 1: Save Final

• Choose Save Final to manually file your return later.
• You can still choose to file directly with Inland Revenue afterwards.

Option 2: Save Final & File

• Select Save Final & File to send your GST return directly to Inland Revenue for processing.

Set up direct filing in 3 easy steps

The first time you file directly, you will need to complete a one-time authentication to connect Farm Focus with Inland Revenue.

1. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Save button.
2. Select Save Final & File.
3. Click File now to accept the GST filing terms and conditions.

You will be redirected to the myIR login screen to enter your user ID and password. Once connected, you will be taken back to your GST return in Farm Focus with a confirmation message displayed.

What happens next?

• Processing: Inland Revenue will process your GST return overnight from the day you file it.
• Auto-Populated Invoice: After finalising your GST return, an auto-populated and coded invoice will appear on the Invoice side of your Needs Action screen. Match it to the corresponding bank transaction.

IMPORTANT: If you use the Direct Debit payment option in myIR, you will not be able to create the payment until the next day after Inland Revenue has processed the return.
If filing a GST payable return on the due date, consider using Inland Revenue's other electronic payment options to ensure timely payment.
